Welcome to Crip Life™ – the UK’s newest and freshest online disability magazine that is dismantling disabling barriers one article at a time. Here we introduce our ideas, mission and ways you can get involved in our new venture.
Why we started Crip Life™?
Crip Life™ was founded by Emma Purcell and Joanna Baker-Rogers, two former colleagues of a previous disability publication.
As we are both passionate about writing, campaigning and raising awareness of disability, we wanted to continue this and create our own platform that would bring extraordinary content and grow an even bigger disabled community.
We would like to stress this is not a replacement for the previous publication but instead bringing our skills and knowledge to build our own platform and expand into areas we may not have published before.
What can we expect from Crip Life™?
Our content will consist of in-depth news coverage and analysis, featured stories, interviews and investigations and research theses.
For any breaking news or hot topics, we will share these on our social media platforms – so please be sure to follow us on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and LinkedIn.
We will also provide a monthly newsletter with a roundup of our latest content and share ways to get involved and engage with the community. Please do subscribe!

Why the name Crip Life?
We understand the name of our online publication can appear quite controversial and offensive to some people. However, that is not our intention at all.
We aim to appear original, stand out and get noticed. Plus, we want to redefine and embrace the word crip in a more positive light.
To understand more about our choice of name, please read: Why (on earth) call it Crip Life™?
Publish your research thesis
We understand the difficulties and costs of getting your research published. That’s why we are offering people to publish their research on anything disability studies related here at Crip Life™.

Advertising and donations
The Crip Life™ advertising strategy is “Pay What You Can (PWYC).” We know this is very different to most if not all, online magazines.
PWYC is a business model that does not insist upon set prices for its goods or services. Instead, it asks clients to pay what they feel the product or service is worth to them. We have taken this one step further by adding what your organisation can afford to pay.

Also, to grow our fab business, we need your help. If you can, please donate to our site and a proportion of your donation will go to a worthy disability charity of our choice.

Appreciating your patience and feedback
As we are a brand-new website, there will be of course a few teething problems whether that will be with the content, technology or accessibility. Please bear with us while we continue developing and fixing any website issues.
We’d also appreciate any feedback you may have that could help us improve our site whether that be the type of content, the layout, style or technical issues such as using assistive technology with our site.
Give us your feedback by filling out our Accessibility Survey!
Support Crip Life™
We are very excited to start this new venture and we hope you can enjoy this with us.
We would value any support you can give us, whether that be subscribing to our newsletter, following and sharing us on social media, giving us feedback and/or even considering advertising with us or donating to us.
Together, we can dismantle disabling barriers one article at a time!
I think this is an excellent initiative and I can’t think of anyone better to be running this magazine. I had wondered about the name too, but I can see what you mean – it’s controversial and mired in taboo, which is what needs to be both challenged and embraced. Well done guys, looking forward to reading more! 🙂
