Tony, a 61-year-old man from Milton Keynes in the UK, who relies on a wheelchair and can walk only with great difficulty and assistance, recently achieved a lifelong dream on the beautiful island of Lanzarote. Together with LanzAbility, a holiday provider specialising in adapted holidays in Lanzarote, and in collaboration with a local paragliding company, Tony experienced the thrill of paragliding over the island’s stunning terrain.
Adapted paragliding across Lanzarote
Due to his disability and understanding that an adapted holiday often only means accessible accommodation and transfers to and from the airport, Tony’s expectations were modest. He planned to visit Lanzarote to enjoy the sun, the beaches, and the lava fields. Never in his wildest dreams did Tony imagine soaring above Lanzarote’s breathtaking volcanic landscapes.
This remarkable adventure was made possible by LanzAbility, the only holiday provider in Lanzarote dedicated to creating unforgettable, adapted experiences for people with disabilities.
Founder David Penney collaborated with the local paragliding company, who met Tony at the top of a volcanic ridge and helped him out of his wheelchair and into special gear for a safe and comfortable paragliding experience.
Together with a very experienced and qualified paraglider, Tony took off for a 30-minute tandem flight over Lanzarote. All Tony had to do was sit back, relax, and enjoy the flight of a lifetime.
“This was beyond anything I could have imagined,” Tony shared. “They all made my dream come true. It was an unforgettable experience.”
LanzAbility: Making Lanzarote accessible for all
These words are motivation enough for David Penney and the team at LanzAbility to continue their mission of making Lanzarote accessible to everyone.
“An adapted holiday isn’t simply about offering accessible accommodation and transportation,” David explains. “It’s about offering adapted experiences and creating lasting memories.” How? By focusing on what a person can do, not on what they cannot do.
For Tony, this meant swapping his wheelchair for a paraglider. For others, it could mean scuba diving in an adapted chair, going on a tour through lava fields in an accessible vehicle, or enjoying a relaxed wine tasting in local bodegas with enough space for a power wheelchair.
Thanks to the continuous efforts of David and his team, Lanzarote, despite its rugged landscapes and volcanoes, is progressively becoming more accessible to everyone, regardless of their abilities.

Advertise With Crip Life™
The Crip Life™ advertising strategy is “Pay What You Can (PWYC).” We know this is very different to most if not all, online magazines. PWYC is a business model that doesn’t insist upon set prices for its goods or services. Instead, it asks clients to pay what they feel the product or service is worth and what you can afford to pay.
We want to place adverts for a wide range of clients. So, whatever the size of the organisation, if you want to promote a product or service, contact Joanna Baker-Rogers.
