Touch: Beyond Vision is a one-day exhibition of tactile art, powered by new AI technology developed by Carveco, a Warwickshire-based company. This event explores how artificial intelligence (AI) can help make the visual world more accessible to blind and visually impaired people — by transforming photos and images into detailed 3D reliefs that can be experienced through touch.

Carveco would love for you to join its VIP evening reception, where it will welcome charity leaders, social media influencers, press and media, museum professionals, and representatives from blind services and educational institutions.

This is not just an art show — it’s a powerful glimpse into a more inclusive future.

What the Touch: Beyond Vision exhibition will include

The Touch: Beyond Vision exhibition invites audiences into a unique sensory world where art, technology, and lived experience converge to redefine how culture can be perceived beyond sight.

At its heart, the exhibition champions inclusivity by offering both blind and sighted visitors the chance to engage with iconic British culture in new and unexpected ways. Instead of relying solely on visual appreciation, the artworks are designed to be explored through touch, personal memory, and sensory immersion.

Each component of the exhibition has been carefully curated to highlight not only the creativity of the artists and technologists involved but also the voices and perspectives of visually impaired individuals themselves.

By transforming familiar icons, treasured personal photographs, and everyday cultural references into detailed tactile forms, the exhibition challenges traditional boundaries of access in the arts. Visitors are invited to reflect on how we collectively value culture, identity, and connection when barriers of vision are removed.

From innovative uses of AI-driven 3D printing to participatory installations that invite empathy and awareness, the exhibition is both a celebration of British cultural heritage and a powerful call for greater accessibility in the creative industries. It offers an enriching and thought-provoking journey into a world where art can truly be felt.

The exhibition includes:

  • 18 tactile reliefs celebrating The Best of British — from iconic musicians and celebrities to historic buildings, artworks, and cultural figures — all transformed into detailed 3D pieces that can be experienced through touch.
  • A large-scale mural wall featuring personal photographs submitted by blind and visually impaired individuals. Each image has been turned into a tactile panel, offering a deeply personal and emotional expression of memory, identity and connection.
  • A ‘How It’s Made’ station, where visitors can see a 3D printer in action and watch a short film showing how a simple photograph can be turned into a tactile artwork using AI and digital manufacturing.
  • The SimSpecs experience, inviting sighted visitors to explore a piece of art while wearing simulation glasses that mimic different eye conditions — offering insight into the challenges of visual impairment and the importance of accessible design.

Why touchable work matters

Carveco believes that every gallery, museum, and public space should include touchable work as standard. With tools like this AI technology, making that a reality is now more possible than ever.

Each artwork includes audio descriptions, braille labels, and clearly designed touchpoints to support independent exploration. Staff members will be available to explain how to interact with the exhibits and assist as needed.
