Motorsport UK is working with Nimbus Disability and the Motorsport UK Disability and Accessibility Committee to understand the experiences of disabled people at motorsport venues, with the ultimate aim of removing as many barriers to participation as possible.

As part of this work, Motorsport UK and Nimbus Disability are launching a survey and running a series of focus groups to understand the challenges disabled people face when at motorsport venues, in their capacity as competitors, volunteers or spectators.

Focusing on the experiences of those with physical disabilities and the neurodiverse motorsport community, the information gathered will be used to work with motorsport venues and offer advice and guidance to support access requirements.

Access Card recognised at six motorsport venues across the UK

Nimbus Disability is a Derby-based social enterprise that developed and operates the Access Card and campaigns for full accessibility and inclusion at venues and attractions across the UK and around the world.

The Access Card has been recognised with The Queen’s Award for Innovation and is now held by more than 350,000 people across the UK.

The Nimbus Access Card

It is the first accessibility scheme of its kind in the world – offering a universal and consistent way for disabled people to evidence and communicate their access requirements to providers quickly and discreetly.

Nimbus’ specialist team handles all applications for the Access Card so that disabled people only have to provide evidence and paperwork once.

The cardholders’ disability/impairment is then translated into symbols which are included on the physical card and registered on the Access Card bespoke software, which works alongside a venue’s online booking system.

This means that, when disabled people book tickets online, the venue is informed quickly and discreetly about the access requirements that individuals need from eligibility to essential companion tickets to the necessity for wheelchair-accessible facilities and much more.

This removes the need for disabled people to continually call ‘special’ booking lines’ and fill in ‘special’ booking forms or answer personal and invasive questions over the phone.

The Access Card is recognised at six of Motorsport UK’s venues – Brands Hatch in Kent, Bedford Autodrome in Bedfordshire, Cadwell Park in Lincolnshire, Donnington Park in Leicestershire, Oulton Park in Cheshire and Snetterton Circuit in Norfolk.

Share your experiences of accessing motorsport venues

Motorsport UK would like to hear about positive and negative experiences at its venues from people with access requirements.

If you identify as disabled or want to share a story on behalf of someone, please follow the survey link below to share the story. All of this information will be kept anonymous and Motorsport UK will only contact you further if you wish to get involved with its in-person and virtual focus groups.

Please note that in this instance the research is based on your experience at permitted venues not as part of getting your license or the sporting side of events. These are also important workstreams that are being worked on beyond this project.

Advertise With Crip Life™

Crip Life™ Media PackThe Crip Life™ advertising strategy is “Pay What You Can (PWYC).” We know this is very different to most if not all, online magazines. PWYC is a business model that doesn’t insist upon set prices for its goods or services. Instead, it asks clients to pay what they feel the product or service is worth and what you can afford to pay.

We want to place adverts for a wide range of clients. So, whatever the size of the organisation, if you want to promote a product or service, contact Joanna Baker-Rogers.
