Panopreter text-to-speech software screen

Panopreter is an intuitive and easy-to-use text-to-speech software that converts digital content into spoken audio. In essence, it allows text on a personal computer (PC) to be read out loud. This makes the digital world more inclusive and accessible to those with physical, sensory and cognitive impairments.

Our co-founder Joanna Baker-Rogers got the opportunity to try out the Panopreter text-to-speech software for herself and shares her thoughts on the program and how it can benefit you in accessing websites, emails, documents and much more.

There is also the opportunity for three lucky people to get free access to the Panopreter software. Scroll down for full details.

What is Panopreter?

Panopreter is a text-to-speech software that enables users to convert written text into spoken words. It works by using a computer-generated voice that reads audibly any written text, which can be helpful for those who have difficulty reading or comprehending written content.

There are several ways in which Panopreter can be used to help people with disabilities.

For those with visual impairments, it can help them access written content without relying on their sight. This can be particularly useful for those who have difficulty reading small or faint text, similar to books, emails or web pages.

It can also be helpful for people with physical disabilities such as those who are paralysed or have limited mobility, as it enables them to access written content without requiring them to physically interact with a computer.

This assistive technology can also be helpful for people with learning disabilities, such as dyslexia or attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), as it can help them comprehend written content more smoothly. By listening to the text being read audibly, they can concentrate on understanding the information rather than struggling to read the words on a page.

One of the most significant benefits of text-to-speech is its ability to customise the reading experience for each user. Many options allow users to adjust the speed, volume and tone of the computer-generated voice, making it easier to understand and more pleasant.

Review of the Panopreter text-to-speech software

Panopreter text-to-speech Download Screen

When I was asked to review Panopreter I was delighted to do so. The software aligns perfectly with the inclusive and accessible ethos of Crip Life™.

I was sent a link that enabled me to download the software. Once clicked, It opens a very user-friendly webpage that takes you straight to how to do so. Basically, the download process for Panopreter is, as the creator says, “intuitive”. You click on the green ‘Start’ icon and just follow the prompts. Remember, if you are using Chrome or Firefox web browsers, click the link at the end of the first page to install Panopreter.

The whole installation process only took a few minutes, and I was ready to go. I started by typing a short sentence into Panopreter. I then clicked “Speak” and my sentence was instantly read out. Success! I did this a few more times and experimented with changing the speech speed, pitch, and volume. You do this by sliding the scales with your mouse and it couldn’t be easier. There is, of course, a very helpful FAQ page. If this doesn’t answer your question, there is an email address to contact Panopreter Support.

What I really loved about Panopreter is it’s available in so many languages, from Arabic to Norwegian to Vietnamese. Some are available in male and female voices. The more recent your version of Windows, the more languages are available to download.

I decided to get a bit more adventurous and copy and paste a paragraph of text into Panopreter. Again, easy to do and clicking speak reads the text out to me perfectly. I also discovered that if you have Panopreter open and click on text in a browser it reads that out loud too. In addition, I was able to read out text in emails that I was writing and had been sent to me.

Depending on how often you are going to use Panopreter and the features you require, there’s a basic and a standard version. Panopreter costs just $32.95 and is a one-time purchase; there are no recurring monthly or yearly subscription fees.

At present, Panopreter only works on Windows PCs. It would be great if a version could be developed that works on MacBooks, tablets and smartphones as well.

I would recommend the Panopreter software to anyone who needs or prefers to have text on a Windows PC spoken. It’s easy to install, use, and very reasonably priced. It’s a five-star review of Panopreter from Crip Life™.

To find out more, visit the Panopreter website. It really is a fabulous product that makes using a Windows PC so much more inclusive and accessible.
