Crazy David presenting three carers with their training certificate.Anyone in the care industry is aware that there is a significant shortage of available carers. Shortly after LanzAbility was established – to create accessible holiday experiences to Lanzarote – we also became aware of this pressing issue and recognised the need to find a solution.

When LanzAbility began its operations here on Lanzarote, we were fortunate enough to have a couple of experienced carers who could assist our visitors. Regrettably, due to a change in personal circumstances, one of our carers was no longer available.

Enter our founder Crazy David, a visionary individual who focuses on finding solutions rather than dwelling on problems. Otherwise, three months from now, we will still be discussing this issue.

He decided to invest a substantial amount of money in an expert training company based in the UK. They were brought over to Lanzarote to provide a comprehensive week-long training program for our carers. Thanks to this initiative, we now boast a team of qualified and certified carers who are adept at working for LanzAbility.

What the training program entailed

The five-day course covered an array of essential topics, including:

  • First Aid in accordance with HSE guidelines
  • Efficient techniques for moving and handling people and loads
  • Comprehensive neurology training encompassing dementia, autism, learning difficulties, ADHD, PTSD, and mental health first aid awareness

It also included modules on safeguarding, infection control, fire safety, medication awareness, nutrition and hydration, as well as dysphagia.

We now have a highly competent team of carers both here on Lanzarote and in the UK and Ireland. Our carers in the UK and Ireland are available to accompany clients during their flights, acting as attentive companions who transition seamlessly into their dedicated carers throughout their stay on Lanzarote.

Our service provides a viable solution for those seeking a vacation but facing the predicament of their care homes or supported living facilities being unable to spare a carer for the journey.

But who cares for the carers?

Family members, friends and PA/carers also deserve care and respite. LanzAbility organises invigorating pamper sessions that include indulgent experiences like massages. Carers also have the chance to unwind and relax by taking a refreshing swim, reading a book, or simply enjoying a coffee or a glass of local wine – all while basking in the abundant sunshine that graces our shores 330 days a year. These comprehensive packages ensure that carers and visitors enjoy a well-deserved and relaxing holiday, knowing they are in good hands.

Considering an accessible holiday to Lanzarote

Before considering a client for our services, we ensure that a qualified and experienced carer in the UK produces a detailed care assessment plan. This plan precisely outlines the necessary care work, medication, and mobility equipment required to deliver the exceptional level of service our clients truly deserve.

While David humbly acknowledges that he is not a carer, he does care and does experience living with a disability, having hearing loss since he was a child. That’s why he took the same five-day training course and acquired the necessary certifications. As a dedicated businessman, David deeply values the unique qualities that exceptional carers bring to the LanzAbility team. Therefore, we invest substantial resources and provide enviable working conditions to attract and retain top-notch professionals.

Our aim is to create a purposeful accessible holiday experience for all where sunshine serves as the remedy for the mind.

Crip Life™ Media PackThe Crip Life™ advertising strategy is “Pay What You Can (PWYC).” We know this is very different to most if not all, online magazines. PWYC is a business model that doesn’t insist upon set prices for its goods or services. Instead, it asks clients to pay what they feel the product or service is worth. We have taken this one step further by adding what you can afford to pay.

We want to place adverts for a wide range of clients. So, whatever the size of the organisation, if you want to share a personal story with our readers or promote a product or service, contact Joanna Baker-Rogers.
