Your favourite disabled podcast duo is stepping out from behind the microphones and onto the live stage at Naidex 2025, Europe’s leading disability exhibition. This isn’t just another podcast recording – it’s a milestone moment for lABLEd, and they want you there with them.
After four years of remote recording sessions that attempt to challenge the status quo, lABLEd have an incredible community of listeners and now, hosts Alice Evans and Lucy Wood are bringing their signature blend of friendship, advocacy and opinions to a whole new audience
Naidex 2025: A Different Elephant Man – Disability in Cinema
The session, A Different Elephant Man, isn’t just about comparing two films separated by 44 years. It’s about examining how far we’ve come in disability representation – and how far we still have to go. Alice and Lucy will be diving deep into the portrayal of John Merrick in David Lynch’s haunting 1980 masterpiece The Elephant Man and drawing parallels to Sebastian Stan’s transformative role in 2024’s A Different Man.
Talking about the session, Alice said: “Getting the opportunity to take our little podcast to Naidex is huge for us. A live show, in front of a bunch of people who have probably never heard of us, talking about one of the most famous movies in disability related cinema? The pressure is on! But I can’t wait to rise to the challenge with my partner in crime, Lucy, by my side.”
Lucy added: “What makes this opportunity extra special is that we’ve gotten here entirely on our own terms. No big corporate backing, no compromise on our values – just pure friendship, unfiltered passion and the incredible support of our community. We’re not just analyzing these films – we’re examining how society’s perception of disability has evolved through the lens of cinema.”
And yes, there will definitely be some of their trademark tangents thrown in for good measure!
The 40-minute session promises to be everything their listeners have come to expect from lABLEd – thought-provoking analysis, unfiltered opinions, and the kind of chemistry that only comes from two friends who are genuinely passionate about creating change through conversation.
From their first episode to this upcoming live session, every step of lABLEd’s journey has been fueled by the support and engagement of their listeners.
