A group of people ride a tandem surfboard in calm ocean water, with one person using a beach wheelchair on the board. Everyone is wearing wetsuits and helmets, enjoying the experience. In the background, others are visible in the water, and a green hillside borders the sea. The bottom of the image features a purple and white "Every Body Moves" logo, alongside a bright yellow label with the hashtag #AccessibleOutdoors and the year 2025.

Following the success of last year’s #AccessibleOutdoors Month, Every Body Moves is proud to bring back its annual celebration of inclusive physical activity, disability sports, and the vision of a more accessible world through outdoor access and adventure.

In July 2024, five powerful episodes showcased the impact of inclusive design and the strength of community, capturing how transforming everyday spaces can create freedom for people of all abilities.

The #AccessibleOutdoors campaign highlighted the incredible range of ways disabled people are getting active outdoors — from accessible mountain biking and all-terrain wheelchair walks to inclusive cycling, inland water activities, and beach-based adventures. Each story brought to life the joy, freedom, and sense of belonging that outdoor activity can offer.

Whether gliding across lakes, exploring forest trails, or riding side-by-side on adapted bikes, the films celebrated the message that the great British outdoors belongs to everyone. With thoughtful design and the right support, more spaces can welcome more people.

What to expect in July 2025

#AccessibleOutdoors returns throughout July 2025 — bigger, bolder, and more community-driven than ever. The campaign will feature vibrant stories from the Every Body Moves community, capturing how disabled people are embracing the outdoors in ways that work for them.

This year’s spotlight is on real experiences, shared directly by the community. Audiences can expect authentic storytelling, inspiring content, and practical ideas for inclusive outdoor activity.

Why #AccessibleOutdoors matters

Outdoor activity in green and blue spaces is especially valued by disabled people. However, according to Activity Alliance’s 2023/24 Annual Disability and Activity Survey, only 44% report finding it easy to access parks, woodlands, and similar places, compared to 78% of non-disabled people. This stark gap highlights persistent physical, psychological, and environmental barriers to equal access.

Improving outdoor accessibility is a top priority. One in three disabled people cite better access to outdoor places as a key government action, rising to 50% among those in rural areas. Location adds another layer of inequality in accessing inclusive sport and outdoor activity.

Despite these challenges, the desire to be active remains strong: 76% of disabled people want to increase their physical activity levels. However, with financial pressures, 44% say they would cut spending on sport and exercise first. Affordable, accessible outdoor activities are crucial to supporting active lifestyles for disabled people across the UK.
