
British Paralympians have continued to showcase their world-class talent across a range of sports this month, securing medals, titles, and records on the global stage. From pool to piste, court to course, September proved to be another landmark period for ParalympicsGB competitors.
British swimmers shine at World Championships
Great Britain’s para swimmers dominated the World Para Swimming Championships in Singapore, finishing with a total of 40 medals: 15 gold, 14 silver, and 11 bronze.
Star of the team Poppy Maskill captured three individual world titles — the 100m butterfly S14 (with a world record), 100m backstroke S14, and 200m freestyle S14. Will Ellard won the men’s 100m butterfly S14 and broke a championship record, while Alice Tai claimed four golds, including the 100m freestyle, 100m backstroke, 100m butterfly, and 400m freestyle.
Other highlights included Faye Rogers’ British record in the S10 400m freestyle, Ellie Challis retaining her S3 50m backstroke crown, and Grace Harvey reclaiming the SB5 100m breaststroke title. Brock Whiston added gold in the SM8 200m individual medley.
The relay teams also excelled. Will Ellard, Poppy Maskill, Dylan Broom, and Georgia Sheffield won the mixed S14 4×100m freestyle relay with a new championship record. Britain also set a world record in the new mixed S14 4×100m medley relay — an event added to the LA 2028 Paralympic programme.

Alfie Hewett and Gordon Reid reach the US Open Final
Wheelchair tennis stars Alfie Hewett and Gordon Reid reached the US Openmen’s doubles final, falling 6-1, 2-6, 10-6 to Gustavo Fernandez and Tokito Oda. The pair were chasing their sixth US Open title together.
Rising talent Ruben Harris, 18, won the boys’ doubles crown with Austria’s Maximillian Taucher, his second Grand Slam title of 2025.

Rowing success in Shanghai

Paralympic and European champion Benjamin Pritchard added the PR1 men’s single sculls world title to his collection, leading from the start in Shanghai. The PR3 mixed coxed four — Frankie Allen, Giedre Rakauskaite, Ed Fuller, Josh O’Brien, and cox Tom Bryce — extended their dominance with a 14th consecutive gold, finishing almost seven seconds ahead of their nearest rivals.
Dan Powell crowned European Judo Champion
Dan Powell became European champion in the J1 –95kg category at the IBSA European Championships in Tbilisi, now holding both world and European titles. His victory extended his podium streak to 17 events.
In addition, Jack Hodgson and Miles Solomon each secured silver in their respective weight categories.

Dimitri Coutya claims World Title in Wheelchair Fencing
In Iksan, South Korea, Dimitri Coutya regained his men’s foil category B world title, now holding Paralympic, world, and European crowns simultaneously. He also took bronze in men’s Épée B and silver with teammates Piers Gilliver, Oliver Lam-Watson, and Joshua Waddell in the team foil event.
At the Para Fencing World Cup in Indonesia, Gemma Collis earned silver in women’s Épée A and bronze in Sabre A, as well as a historic silver in the women’s team Épée alongside Emily Holder — Britain’s first medal in the event.
Medals in Para Dressage

British riders secured five medals at the FEI Para Dressage European Championships in the Netherlands. Mari Durward-Akhurst won two bronze medals in Grade 1, while debutants Jemima Green (Grade 2) and Nicola Naylor (Grade 4) also claimed individual bronze. Durward-Akhurst and Green later added freestyle bronze, with Britain narrowly missing a team podium spot in fourth.

British Triathletes dominate in Portugal
In triathlon, Dave Ellis and guide Luke Pollard won the PTVI category at the World Triathlon Para Cup by more than two minutes. Ryan Taylor took silver in PTS3, Hannah Moore won PTS4 by over four minutes, and Rachael Elliott earned PTVI silver in her first international competition.

Shooting medals in Serbia
British shooters impressed at the Novi Sad Grand Prix. Ryan Cockbill captured gold in the Mixed 50m Rifle Prone SH2 (R9) among three medals, while Matt Skelhon won the R3 Mixed 10m Air Rifle Prone SH1 with a British record score of 256.1.
Archery podiums in Gwangju

Britain’s archers returned from the World Archery Para Championships with multiple medals. Paralympic champions Nathan MacQueen and Jodie Grinham both won individual bronze, while Nathan MacQueen and Jamie Harris claimed bronze in the men’s team compound.
Nicolas Thomas took gold in the visually impaired division. Jessica Stretton and Phoebe Paterson Pine added bronze in the women’s team compound event.

Boccia pair ends seven-year wait for gold
Great Britain celebrated success at the Seoul Boccia World Cup as Stephen McGuire and Sophie Newnham won BC4 Pairs gold, Sophie added bronze, and David Smith OBE secured silver – a strong boost ahead of next year’s World Championships.

World Para Athletics Championships 2025
The New Delhi 2025 World Para Athletics Championships have been taking place since 27th September and will conclude on Sunday 5th October. A total of 2,200 athletes, including 37 from Great Britain, are competing in 186 medal events, all of which you can watch on the Paralympics YouTube channel.
