Ealing Mencap is proud to announce its highly anticipated Inclusive Fashion Show, taking place on Friday 5th September, 5pm to 8pm at Parkside Yard, Southall UB1 1GH, as part of its 60th anniversary celebrations. This year’s event is set to be more exciting and inclusive than ever, with the support of Models of Diversity, the addition of DIAXPORA.FM as official media partner, and the much-loved musician and TV personality Daniel Wakeford as presenter, alongside award-winning actor Sarah Gordy MBE as special guest.
For too long, people with learning disabilities have been overlooked and pushed to the sidelines. This September, Ealing Mencap’s members are stepping out of the shadows and onto the runway – ready to show the world what true talent, confidence, and inclusion look like.
The show, created in collaboration with the trailblazing charity Models of Diversity – a leader in championing representation in fashion, beauty, and media – will feature models with learning disabilities, each bringing their unique style and personality to the catwalk. It’s a powerful celebration of individuality, creativity, and community spirit.
Special guests and partners bringing excitement to the event
Adding even more star power to the evening, the show will be presented by Daniel Wakeford, the acclaimed singer-songwriter and television personality best known for his appearances on Channel 4’s The Undateables. Daniel, who is autistic, has become a beloved figure for his music, charisma, and advocacy for people with learning disabilities. His presence as a presenter will bring energy, warmth, and inspiration to the event.
Ealing Mencap is also honoured to welcome Sarah Gordy MBE as a special guest. Sarah is an award-winning British actor, dancer, and model with Down’s syndrome. She is celebrated for her roles in BBC’s The A Word, Ralph & Katie, Upstairs Downstairs, and Call the Midwife.
Sarah was the first woman with Down’s syndrome to be awarded an MBE for services to the arts and people with disabilities, and the first person with Down’s syndrome to receive an honorary degree from a UK university. She is a passionate advocate for inclusion, a patron of the Down’s Syndrome Association, and a role model for challenging attitudes towards disability in the arts.
This year, Ealing Mencap is thrilled to partner with DIAXPORA.FM®, a neurodivergent-led media and sound project dedicated to creating inclusive, neurodivergent-friendly media that reflects the diverse voices of Ealing Borough. The DIAXPORA.FM team will be present at the show, capturing every moment and sharing the excitement with the wider community.
Hear from the Mencap models

Marcus is Mencap’s resident dancer, so he will for sure be giving the runway some energy and moves as he goes.
Speaking about why he wants to take part in this event and how he feels about it, he said: “I wanted to join the fashion show because I think I’m a cool person. I’m feeling okay, but a little nervous because I don’t know how it’s going to look. I love having my picture taken, so I am looking forward to that. I am also happy to do some dancing.”
Fellow model Steven also echoed these thoughts: “I joined the fashion show because I want to perform in front of an audience. I am excited to do the catwalk. I am feeling a bit nervous. I think the fashion show will help me feel included. I am looking forward to seeing how many people come. I hope the fashion show goes really well and everyone claps at the end.”
Dimples was a bit shy at first, not wanting to join in. But now she’s done full circle and will be hitting the runway too!
She said: “I’m really excited for the fashion show because I can’t wait to dress up and dance. I’m looking forward to striking a pose at the end of the catwalk. I want to be filmed and photographed, I really love the camera. I wanted to take part in the fashion show because I like to put on a show. I want to show off nice clothes to people.”
Bukky (pictured above) has Down’s syndrome. She is the life of a party and loves to dance, she is also one of our cover girls, having featured in Vogue Italia after the photoshoot with Zuzu Valla last year. Bukky said she felt excited to become a model, and she hopes audiences like her modelling on the day of the fashion show.
