Mi-Spend I want financial inclusion I want a card in my name I want my spending money my way Breaking barriers to a new way forward

In the modern world where most things are paid by card or online, this can be challenging for people with intellectual and cognitive impairments such as learning disabilities, autism and dementia, who may rely on support with their finances and tend to use cash. Thankfully, Mi-Spend has created a safe and secure way for you to access your money with independence.

Here, Mi-Spend explains its pre-paid debit card service and how it can help disabled people access their money with ease and freedom.

What is a Mi-Spend card?

The award-winning Mi-Spend started because we found some people with Appointees, Deputies or Guardians who manage their main money, were struggling to have access to their spending money and to be able to have a card that they could use at a cashpoint, online or in-store.

We offer cards in your own name, which are loaded by the person who manages your money. This means that you can go out and use your card to buy things or to order online. It also means that you only have to have cash if you want to. It keeps you safe, as you can only spend what is available on the card, so you can’t go overdrawn or overspend on your budget.

The person who manages your benefits keeps looking after those and still manages any bills you have, but our cards make sure you get your spending money in a way that works for you. No more standing in line with a bank book to get cash out or being turned away from things you want to buy that says “card only”

Our cards are super affordable. If you pay towards your care. Many of the councils take our fee off what you owe towards this, also known as a disability-related expense.

You have your own account name, sort code and account number and no one else’s money is mixed with yours. But also your Appointee, Deputy or Guardian can keep track of what has been spent and be notified when transactions are being made.

Organisations and authorities including Cambridgeshire County Council and Dorset Council have found the Mi-Spend card extremely useful to many of its service users, especially when the acceptance of cash is dwindling in many shops and the closure of many high street banks.

How to apply for a Mi-Spend card?

Our application is done by your Appointee, Deputy or Guardian and is really easy to do so it shouldn’t take them long, so as soon as they have loaded it you are good to go!

If you would like to know more you can see our website www.mi-spend.co.uk or if you want a card to ask your Appointee, Deputy or Guardian to contact us.

Crip Life™ Media PackThe Crip Life™ advertising strategy is “Pay What You Can (PWYC).” We know this is very different to most if not all, online magazines. PWYC is a business model that doesn’t insist upon set prices for its goods or services. Instead, it asks clients to pay what they feel the product or service is worth and what you can afford to pay.

We want to place adverts for a wide range of clients. So, whatever the size of the organisation, if you want to promote a product or service, contact Joanna Baker-Rogers.
